Genetic Testing and Surgery Cost
This week was full of work, since I’ll be off next week. Unfortunately, that didn’t leave much time for me to update you. So, here’s what’s happened since my previous post. Despite my best efforts to have a cancer appointment-free week, I did end up with a genetics appointment on Thursday. We traveled to a…

New Cancer Appointment, Finding Rest and Simplifying Dinners
I planned for a quiet week this week, so I can rest as much as possible before surgery. No cancer appointments. Except now I have one on Thursday with a geneticist. The geneticist will check me for genetic traits that will hopefully add to the information we have about my cancer. I’m also still working…

Pre-Op and My Cancer T-Shirt
We had my pre-op appointment this afternoon. The appointment was with my primary care provider’s nurse practitioner. I’d never met her before but she was very nice, as was her assistant. She asked me some medical history questions, performed a physical exam, did an EKG and ordered a metabolic panel, which I was able to…

Cancer Conflicts With My Medication
I’m not sure if “cancer changes everything” is a thing people say, but if it’s not, it should be. Because it does. Any serious and/or debilitating illness changes everything. I’ve seen it with ME/CFS, POTS and now cancer. So far cancer has been the most disruptive, but not the most debilitating. We’ll see how things…

Cancer with ME/CFS and POTS: The Search for Relevant Information
You know what there’s really very little of on the internet? Info about people with ME/CFS and POTS who also happen to have cancer. Which means I’m left to wonder about things like whether my cancer treatment will leave my other illnesses permanently worse, etc. I think with most resources, cancer is assumed to be…

Surgical Oncologist Consultation: Stage 1, Grade 3 IDC
Home from the consultation with my surgical oncologist. I really like her. She is caring and thoughtful and explained everything thoroughly. She even wrote notes for me as she went along so I would have it all written down and be able to refer to it later! At my appointment, the doc explained that I…

Breast MRI: A Glimmer of Good News
I had my breast MRI on Monday. If I’m reading the report right, it seems like they found the tumor we know about and not much else. So that is sounding pretty good! Breast surgeon consultation is 9/19. Originally posted on Facebook.

Decoding My Cancer Diagnosis: HR Positive and HER2 Negative
Had my PCP appointment and got my initial referrals. I have to schedule the MRI and to meet with a surgeon. Also, in case anyone is interested, the exact words for my breast cancer (from the report) are: poorly differentiated invasive mammary carcinoma with ductal and lobular features. My doc says I am HR positive…

Unexpected: My Breast Cancer Diagnosis
My doc called this afternoon and apparently I have breast cancer. So, that’s a thing now. Next step is an MRI and I think they’ll know more after that. I’m kind of in a daze about it at the moment. That outcome was wholly unexpected. Originally posted on Facebook.

Post-Biopsy Taco Bell and Tylenol
Biopsy is done! We’re home again. Rewarded myself with Taco Bell breakfast. Mmm. Running out of numbness and starting to get sore. Grateful I have some space to rest today. Results in 4-5 business days. ❤ Originally posted on Facebook.
